I'm not right, I'm left!
All the Skinning News Feeds you want and need
Published on June 12, 2004 By UpsideDownGC In Skinning
Well I have posted this over at my modblog at 1k.modblog.com but I decided to post this here. I did some searching and found some stuff with urls for xml and rss feeds for skinning sites.

First off is the holy grail of all skinning sites, Wincustomize. You can get WC's feed from https://www.wincustomize.com/backend/wincustnews.xml

Another great website for skinning news is Teknidermy, there feed can be sourced from http://teknidermy.com/fridge/news.0.91.rss

Also if you want to get the RSS feed from a particular blog you can use Blog Navigator from stardock or use the JoeUser DesktopX Object created by Martin.

If you want to get a feed on your website from a blog on Joeuser use the following format: http://username.joeuser.com/rss/username_rss.xml

Therefore to get my RSS feed you would use http://upsidedowngc.joeuser.com/rss/upsidedowngc_rss.xml

And to get Martins you would use http://martin.joeuser.com/rss/martin_rss.xml
If you wanted to get the feed from who I consider the partriarch of mainstream skinning and the skinning community as it is today, Brad Wardell, aka Frogboy on WC, and Draginol to JoeUser users, you could use http://draginol.joeuser.com/rss/draginol_rss.xml for the Draginol Blog and http//sdtv.joeuser.com/rss/sdtv_rss.xml for Stardock TV. If you wanted to be lazy you could also just go to the blog of your choice and click the RSS button which directs you directly to the rss/xml feed of the blog. You just copy and paste the URL (the thing that is in your adress bar) into your RSS reader rss/xml field and it will get the feed from that.

XML and RSS are great ways to syndicate stuff and Stardock is coming out with a great program, Blog Navigator, that is in Beta at the time I am writing this. If you wanted to get something like DeviantArt for the art community feed you would use http://backend.deviantart.com/news-rss1.0.xml .

So if you know of any other great skinning feeds feel free to add them in the comments. Also if you want to get rss feeds concerning the news and blogs directly to your desktop check out DesktopX.net and purchase DesktopX and search through WC for some good readers of XML and RSS. Martin has created some of these and if you are brave and adventurous you could try to script your own object and convert it to a widget so that people dont need to have DesktopX running to get news to their desktop. I just want to say one last thing about XML/RSS, that is that I think that as the internet continues to become a greater source for news and information people will rely more and more on syndicated RSS feeds for their news. Please comment and add anything you think should be added. Hope you liked it and found it useful and inisightful and also I hope I was able to educate you about XML and RSS feeds and some of the best available.
